How to integrate Sensors into Rollers?

  • Up to 16 sensors are fully integrated into small holes in the surface of the roller
  • Holes are smoothly closed again, filled with surface material
  • Roller is ready for measurement now
  • The system can easily be adapted not only for new rollers, but also as a retrofit solution
  • The sensors do not need any internal batteries and no wiring on the roller

How does the ROLLector work?

  • Small antennas are placed near the roller in a distance of about 20 cm. The sensors which are integrated in the surface of the roller are continously polled to monitor the parallelism of the roller in real-time
  • The sensors are activated via an electromagnetic High Frequency field on 2.4 GHz. That HF field delivers the necessary energy (electrical power) for the sensors to "wake-up" and transmit the measurement data back to the antennas
  • The sensors contain a resonator (quartz-crystal). The resonant frequency of the quartz is proportional to the roller temperature at the locations of the individual sensors
  • At any instant of time, the temperature profile of the roller reflects the status of parallelism on the roller, so the online status can be monitored and automatically reported to the computer in the control room
